Financial Services Royal Commission confirms date for interim report

Media Release

20 July 2018

The Financial Services Royal Commission today confirmed that the Commissioner, the Honourable Kenneth Madison Hayne AC QC, intends to submit an interim report to the Governor-General by 30 September 2018.

The interim report will identify policy related issues arising from the first four rounds of hearings. The Commission will be inviting submissions on the policy related issues identified in the interim report. The opportunity to make submissions will follow once the report has been tabled in Parliament and released to the public.

The interim report will not cover the topics to be addressed in upcoming hearing rounds in relation to superannuation and insurance. The public will have the opportunity to make submissions on policy related issues that arise in those rounds following the conclusion of each round.

Following the conclusion of round 6 in late September, the Commission will have held six hearing rounds exploring a range of issues across the banking, superannuation and financial services industry.

The conclusion of round 6 will mark an appropriate time to close the current online public submission form and for the Commission to shift focus from examining past experiences to looking at policy related issues which have been identified.

Those wishing to make a submission using the current online public submission form will have until Friday, 28 September 2018 to do so.

A further hearing round to consider the policy questions arising from the first six rounds will be held in November 2018.

Further information is available on the Commission website.
